Novica je potekla!
Z velikim ponosom sporočamo, da je ekipa študentov Fakultete za elektrotehniko, računalništvo in informatiko (FERI), študijskega programa Informatika in podatkovne tehnologije – Gaja Gujt, Boban Boshevski, Adam Kac in Tevž Starovasnik, skupaj s študentko Pedagoške fakultete (PEF), študijskega programa Glasbena pedagogika – Evo Ekart, pod mentorstvom izr. prof. dr. Boštjana Šumaka in doc. dr. Maje Pušnik, osvojila odlično drugo mesto na 8. mednarodnem tekmovanju Global Competition on Design for Future Education (GCD4FE).
• metaverse in izobraževanje,

UM FERI and PEF Team Among the World’s Best – Silver Award at the 8th Global Competition on Design for Future Education (Higher Education Track)
We are proud to announce that a team of students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (FERI), study programme Informatics and Data Technologies – Gaja Gujt, Boban Boshevski, Adam Kac, and Tevž Starovasnik – together with Eva Ekart, a student of Music Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education (PEF), and under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boštjan Šumak and Assist. Prof. Dr. Maja Pušnik, achieved an outstanding second place at the 8th Global Competition on Design for Future Education (GCD4FE).
The event took place from July 26 to July 28, 2025, at Beijing Normal University, China, and was co-organized by the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE).
The team qualified for the world finals by winning the regional competition in Zagreb, where they impressed the jury with their innovative idea LearnSmart. The global finals brought together the best student teams from around the world to address future-focused challenges in education.
The overarching theme of the competition was the future of education, with specific emphasis on the following key areas:
• Artificial intelligence in education
• Metaverse and education
• Rural education
• Inclusive education
• Neuroscience in education
• Artificial intelligence in engineering
Within just 48 hours, participants were asked to develop and present a comprehensive conceptual design of an innovative solution. The final deliverables were required to include a theoretical and empirical foundation, a functional prototype, and supporting visual materials.
The Slovenian team captured the attention of the international five-member jury with their original and inclusive idea for a mobile app called Skill Match, which promotes intergenerational connections between younger and older users. The app facilitates the exchange of knowledge and life experience between generations, with artificial intelligence playing a key role in connecting users, personalizing learning content, and enhancing the overall user experience. Special emphasis was placed on accessibility for older users, with a simple interface and functionality tailored to their needs and levels of digital literacy.
The competition was an intense and demanding experience for the team. In just 48 hours - with virtually no sleep - the students prepared a detailed project report, complete with data analysis and visualizations, an English-language pitch presentation, and a prototype of the solution.
Throughout the event, they delivered multiple presentations to different juries and succeeded in reaching the final round, where their work was evaluated by a panel of distinguished professors and UNESCO representatives.
We sincerely congratulate the team for their exceptional achievement and for proudly representing both the University of Maribor and Slovenia on the global stage!
