In COVR Project "CobotSense: Intelligent 3D safety sensor for cobot applications ", the partners successfully reached the final Milestone 2 (after 9 of 9 months). FOKUS TECH d.o.o. has managed to raise the scanning speed of their prototype LiDAR sensor to 4.8 fps (from the starting 1 fps), UM FERI has integrated functionalities of motion prediction for both, robot and operator, the protective separation distance (PSD) calculation, and real-time adjustment of the robot’s speed in order to realize the speed and separation monitoring (SSM) principle. FANUC ADRIA d.o.o. has provided laboratory & industrial testing environments and their knowledge in the robot controller communication with external devices. An informative use case was presented by Youtube video and, as the main deliverable, the COVR Toolkit was extended with the Protocol for testing SSM cobot applications with 3D sensors.

The Laboratory for Electro-Optical and Sensor Systems (FERI, UM), in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical Measurement and Sensor Systems (TUG, Austria), will organize a workshop within the NATO SPS project entitled " Photonic Nano Particle Sensors for Detecting CBRN events". The workshop will begin on 15 September 9.2021 at 9:00 AM in the lecture hall Beta (G2 facility). The lectures shall cover the areas of photothermal sensing principles, fiber optic Fabry-Perot sensors and their applications in sensor systems, and interrogation principles for such sensors.

The project aims to develop miniature optical fiber sensors for detecting aerosols (black carbon, NOx,…) generated as a result of CBRN (nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological) events. Read more on the project website: https://www.pnp-sensors.eu/.

The project partner is the Technical University of Graz (TUG). Lectures will be held in English.

Jure has collaborated on projects such as Swamp Attack and Talking Tom Camp, totaling more than 340 million downloads. Assoc. prof. dr. Aleš Zamuda received an award from IEEE Region 8 for completing successful leadership of Young Professionals Affinity Group. With this award, IEEE expressed its appreciation for Notable Services and Contributions towards the advancement of IEEE and the Engineering Profession. The Affinity Group is, to many IEEE members, the focal point of their IEEE experience. Congratulations!

At the end of September, the 29th International Electrotechnical and Computer Science Conference ERK 2020 was held in Portorož, organized by the Slovenian Section of the IEEE. As part of the conference, a student contribution competition was held, in which student Vid Keršič achieved second place and student Domen Kavran third place.

The University Programming Marathon is a nationwide competition of students in programming with an emphasis on knowledge of data structures and algorithms. This year, the final round took place in a decentralized form, where teams simultaneously competed at their home universities/faculties.
