Members of the Laboratory for real time systems, in cooperation with the Community Health Care Center, Adolf Drolc and the Laboratory for System Design developed the "Smart Toothbrush Holder" and obtained a patent for it.
The smart toothbrush holder allows one to monitor the position of the brush, and measure the pressure of the brush head to the teeth. With light signals and vibrations, the user warns against incorrect use of the brush. Using the Bluetooth interface, data can also be sent to a mobile device or a computer for further processing. The acquired data can be used for scientific research, to link with a serious game that will promote the cleaning of teeth in children, and similar. The holder is designed to allow the use of different brushes. The holder has a built-in induction charger to charging the built in battery. The development of the Smart Brush Holder was carried out within the EkoSMART project (Eco System for the Smart City), co-financed by the Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the European Regional Development Fund. The project at FERI is led and coordinated by prof. Peter Kokol, Head of the Laboratory for System Design.
